Finished my last exam ever at CCNB today - SO HAPPY. We still have a lot of work to do to get ready for our exhibition's opening night, which is Thursday, but no more schoolwork yaaaaay! It's almost weird though...

I was also very pleased with today's weather - I got to go jogging this morning, then had my coffee outside... then cleaned the kitchen because I was just in that much of a good mood. C:

Gestures in black pen. And hands because hands hands HANDS. Still not gonna be able to go to life drawing for a while, siiiiiigh this summer I really need to buckle down!

Original characters!

Another sticker for the con - VOCALOID Rin Kagamine. I'm soooooo behind schedule, but things have just been insane these past two months! I'll finish Vocaloids for sure and maybe do some Dragon Age 2 characters then re-touch my Eeveelutions, but I think that'll be it. I'm almost tempted to do some A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones characters just to feed my fandom needs but I don't think Animaritime has the right audience for it...

Life drawing this week (last week's was cancelled), I felt like it went really well for me (despite a few mishaps with the model), especially compared to last time I went where I felt like I just forgot how to draw or something ahaha ;_;

1 minute I believe

5s and 10s

Wish I could have finished this! Oh welllll

20 minutes - he moved a lot during this pose, the angle was very different at the end @w@

20 minutes - the color scheme on this reminds me of Rainbow Dash so bad

Another study, photo reference used of course! I'm trying to squeeze more of these in my schedule, not really aiming for perfect rendering just trying to get shapes and lighting down path. I think I will thoroughly study the crap out of everything this summer when I have more free time, though!

Finally HERE'S ME AS A PONY, I would be called Dreamtime and my cutie mark is a wacky clock over a moon because I'm so busy and I love sleep. And I would be a pegasus pony because of totally valid reasons not because I just like wings or anything.

... and then I wonder why I'm still single

Busy busy busyyyy, but it could be a lot worse! One of my resolutions for this last trimester of college was to not totally die of stress (like I was doing a few months ago). So far so good, but things are far from over. :P

Life drawing again this week! Didn't feel like it went that great but whateverrr we all get off-days I suppose.

30 second poses

5 minutes

20 minutes

I watched Mulan the other night. Yeahhhh

A larger scale painting I've been working on for a few weeks! Daenerys Targaryen from A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones. I'm really into this series right now, was feeling very inspired. C: Tried a bunch of new things in this painting too, like painting dragons (wtf), actually sketching out a few compositions before jumping into Photoshop, and a new blending tool.
(this also got featured on the Daenerys Facebook fanpage! Yaaaaaaayyyy <3 )

And finally, started working on stickers for Animaritime! Here's Miku. ;)

Winter is finally here! We had our first big snowstorm since winter started (and in Atlantic Canada that means since Halloween basically), and it finally looks like the snow's sticking around for good. I love sunny bright winter days where everything is so shiny and white it blinds you, with a nice fluffy snow falling down so it's not too cold. ... But everything else about winter? no thanks. :|

I just yesterday discovered that there's an option to specifically reply to comments... has it been there since forever and I'm just totally blind? Probably. ... but yay anyway!

Life drawing this week was... interesting. I tried drawing vertically, like with an easel, and discovered that it is sooooo not for me. I have a lot more trouble with proportions, and drawing is just plain painful after a while. So I dropped that idea halfway through. P:

The model was also different, and really lacked experience in modeling since it was one of his first times. The first half of the session consisted of very similar poses, but he seemed to get the hang of it by the end! And even posed with his bicycle, which was very interesting.

The first set of poses after I changed drawing positions (aka first ones to make sense)! We didn't do quick 10-30 seconds gestures or anything this time.

 bicycle anatomy wat?

Also studied some hands this week!

And finally fun sketch tiiiiime yay! color mess or what lolol

Going to Fredericton tomorrow, first dance competition of the year yaaaaay :)

Stuff's been piling up, tiiiime to update!

My exciting news of the week: on Monday, my mom and I went home for lunch and found our basement almost completely flooded! Turns out a pipe from our hot water tank busted in the morning. :( All of the flooring, which my dad had just recently finished installing, was ruined. Our insurance is covering most of it though, and they hired a company to come and replace it for us, which is great. And thankfully we caught it early on, the water hadn't gotten to the corner with all the electronics yet, although there was some humidity. Could have been a lot worse, but it's still totally a buzzkill. :C

Onto more positive things! Went to life drawing this week--

30 seconds

5 minutes I think!

10 minutes? I thought switching color scheme for each set would make me remember the time more... I guess not hahaha

A few face studies

Some original stuff! I'm really into nordic/wilder designs lately, not sure why, probably all the Skyrim/A Song of Ice and Fire (reading book 3, totally amazing, ah ma gawd).

For a weekly art challenge on Tumblr: create a character of an ethnic group you're not used to drawing. So, I chose a native american! Decided to draw him in a modern setting, with some traditional elements incorporated. Very fun challenge, might render this some more eventually. C:

Working on a larger scale painting right now, gonna try to stick to it for once! also I am sooooo tired blah

Survived my first week back to my insane schedule! Also new this year: going for allergy shots once a week to finally get rid of those crazy hay fever symptoms I get every summer. I'm afraid of needles (though not as much as before), so hopefully this'll cure me in more ways than one. :)

Went to life drawing this week, I missed it soooo much.

Quick poses

I'm seriously going to commit myself to go every week I'm not working, I really need it!

A speedpaint to try out a new blending technique. When used in moderation, the smudge tool does wonders! I really like how this turned out, going to practice it some more because blending is always something I've had trouble with!

Off to work I gooooo~

Winter break finally comes to an end for me, but did I ever enjoy it. I spent a big portion of it sitting on my butt playing Skyrim/reading/watching movies, which is awesome, but I also began working on my cosplay for Animaritime 2012 -  Astrid from How to Train Your Dragon! Getting a headstart this year, so I don't stress out last minute like I did last year. :P

here's a progress shot of her shoulder-armor:

I still need to give them another coat of paint, do some refining, and add the little round spikes. And figure out how the heck I'm going to fasten them to the shirt. Make first, think later <--- story of my life.
(I used this armor-making tutorial! perfect for anyone who is absolutely incompetent at making anything--like me-- and doesn't want to buy expensive materials off the internet. I bought all of the stuff at Michaels, save for the cloth which I got at HomeHardware.)

Time for some art!

Quick figures... itching for some new material!

Attempt at more realistic faces without reference ughhhuuh

Nev in Skyrim nordic inspired clothing.

Because I watched 40 episodes of Inuyasha this week and it was amazing JUST SAYIN'. Working on two paintings right now, one of which is an environment WITH A CHARACTER kinda omggg, I kinda wanted to post a WIP but I feel like I curse myself because I almost never finish stuff when I post a WIP of it. hurdur

I hope everyone had a nice Christmas - I sure did! Didn't ask for anything in particular this year, so everything was a surprise. I got a few Disney classics, the Matrix trilogy + Animatrix, PJs, jewelry, lots of little goodies and chocolate to last me a lifetime (or, like, a week). Went shopping today with the money I got and got some clothes + the Scott Pilgrim movie, which I have been wanting for a while. The weather was awesome, got to see some family and spend time with friends, ate awesome food, so no complaints. :)

Plus, my laptop seems to be working okay again! Hoping it was just a fluke and it'll never happen again, but I will think twice about cleaning my trackpad from now on.

I've been doing a lot of sketching with colors, and I'm thinking of practicing this technique for the con (sketch commissions). First, some anatomy sketches! I think these were all timed at 2 minutes. And as much as I love using my big sketchbook, scanning things is a major pain because I have to scan each page like 3 times to get everything. :U

Couldn't go to life drawing because it was cancelled for the holidays, but I'm really looking forward to it... I'm seeing a lot of poses I've already drawn (and sometimes I draw them again, oops) since I'm always using the same website. Practice makes perfect I guess, but I'd like some new material! And more males, they are often either too clothed (to the point where you can't see the shape of their body anymore) or have really bad lighting.

OCs blablabla, Azure and Ve'yan proportions what are those? My fault for drawing them on two different days oh well

Some Dragon Age fanart! Have a Fenris and female mage Hawke. C:

This New Year's Eve's probably going to be a quiet one as usual, but I don't mind!

Male study time! Something I've been working on/off for the last week or so. I might rework it in the future, but for now it's finished.

... He kinda ended up looking a bit like Dexter? A more muscular Dexter anyway.

I need to paint more! @w@ And speaking of, I purchased an Adobe CS5 package with an incredibly sweet student discount, so now I finally have a completely legit paid-for copy of Photoshop! Yaaaaay hopefully it'll stop crashing when my files are too big. (I also got a pile of other Adobe products in this package, such as Illustrator, In-Design and Flash to name a few... BEST DEAL EVER)

Thursday, November 17, 2011

I actually cannot believe we're already halfway through November! The freakishly warm weather isn't helping, but hey no complaints.

Sooooo still not much from me, I am very blah in the non-college-related art department these days, I've caught my first cold of the season (which is odd because usually I get them in September, without fail), and it's hit me hard! I had a fever for the first time in years, was literally unable to speak for a day, I still sound like a 12-year old boy going through puberty, and I am sooooo run down. Whenever I have free time I just want to spend it sitting around aimlessly and not do anything with my life. Or sleep. ;w; Beautiful, beautiful sleep.

I did push myself to do some (very very) quick sketches. That's pretty much all I have the energy and time to do these days...

blablabla naked people

Max looking at a sword(?), Kyte and Ve'yan being cold because I was cold, two mystery chicks. I don't really know where I'm going with my style anymore, it's like half of me draws realism then the other is like anime? cartoons? ok, but somehow I just don't really care anymore. :|

This is actually a remake of an old sketch I used to really like, from a few years ago. Still experimenting with the colors, but I think I might paint this soon! Also, digital linearting: you are not nearly as terrible as I remembered.
