Still alive, but barely! I've come down with a monster cold/laryngitis type thing that has basically kept me in bed and unable to speak since yesterday afternoon. It's 8pm and I am finally able to get out of bed without dizzy spells-- yay for progress!

Good news: I got accepted to do my internship at Gogii games!! THIS MAKES ME SO HAPPY I wish I had the energy (or voice) to celebrate but keyboard smashing and smiling like an idiot will have to do for now: zhjagfjsdhgkjdfzhgfkADgdahfgzridhlf'l;l;kj!!

...So, before attacking the massive mountain of work I need to get done (gotta love finals!), I thought I would update with the very little sketches I have accumulated in the last week:

Some handssss

Some headsssss

Sketch for a painting I want to start soon. Will involve jellyfishes and pretty colors. I really need to re-unite with my tablet and painting, I'm missing it so much! :c

Finally here's something I painted for a huge "self-promotion" project about a month ago. I went with a knight theme as a general idea for all my promotional tools, because well I'm just geeky like that and it makes me happy. 8D I also made an online portfolio through DeviantArt! (Not a fan of how little freedom there is with the template, but very nice looking and super simple to make nevertheless.)

Winter is finally here! We had our first big snowstorm since winter started (and in Atlantic Canada that means since Halloween basically), and it finally looks like the snow's sticking around for good. I love sunny bright winter days where everything is so shiny and white it blinds you, with a nice fluffy snow falling down so it's not too cold. ... But everything else about winter? no thanks. :|

I just yesterday discovered that there's an option to specifically reply to comments... has it been there since forever and I'm just totally blind? Probably. ... but yay anyway!

Life drawing this week was... interesting. I tried drawing vertically, like with an easel, and discovered that it is sooooo not for me. I have a lot more trouble with proportions, and drawing is just plain painful after a while. So I dropped that idea halfway through. P:

The model was also different, and really lacked experience in modeling since it was one of his first times. The first half of the session consisted of very similar poses, but he seemed to get the hang of it by the end! And even posed with his bicycle, which was very interesting.

The first set of poses after I changed drawing positions (aka first ones to make sense)! We didn't do quick 10-30 seconds gestures or anything this time.

 bicycle anatomy wat?

Also studied some hands this week!

And finally fun sketch tiiiiime yay! color mess or what lolol

Going to Fredericton tomorrow, first dance competition of the year yaaaaay :)

A painting I started over break and finished today. Comfort-zone material, but I experimented with a light-source I'm not used to, at least! The character is an original character or mine, Azure Caelum, who's been around since pretty much forever. I'm not really aiming to go anywhere with these characters, they just give me something to draw and work on. :)

(this painting wasn't intended as a remake, but I also painted her in September of 2010! It was fun to compare anyway)

I'm being pretty active with this blog as of late, hopefully I'll be keeping it that way for a while! gotta keep drawing~

I hope everyone had a nice Christmas - I sure did! Didn't ask for anything in particular this year, so everything was a surprise. I got a few Disney classics, the Matrix trilogy + Animatrix, PJs, jewelry, lots of little goodies and chocolate to last me a lifetime (or, like, a week). Went shopping today with the money I got and got some clothes + the Scott Pilgrim movie, which I have been wanting for a while. The weather was awesome, got to see some family and spend time with friends, ate awesome food, so no complaints. :)

Plus, my laptop seems to be working okay again! Hoping it was just a fluke and it'll never happen again, but I will think twice about cleaning my trackpad from now on.

I've been doing a lot of sketching with colors, and I'm thinking of practicing this technique for the con (sketch commissions). First, some anatomy sketches! I think these were all timed at 2 minutes. And as much as I love using my big sketchbook, scanning things is a major pain because I have to scan each page like 3 times to get everything. :U

Couldn't go to life drawing because it was cancelled for the holidays, but I'm really looking forward to it... I'm seeing a lot of poses I've already drawn (and sometimes I draw them again, oops) since I'm always using the same website. Practice makes perfect I guess, but I'd like some new material! And more males, they are often either too clothed (to the point where you can't see the shape of their body anymore) or have really bad lighting.

OCs blablabla, Azure and Ve'yan proportions what are those? My fault for drawing them on two different days oh well

Some Dragon Age fanart! Have a Fenris and female mage Hawke. C:

This New Year's Eve's probably going to be a quiet one as usual, but I don't mind!

Merry Christmas to everyone! :)

Really enjoying my vacation so far! Skyrim is amaaaaaazing, playing it is pretty much all I've been doing so far, but I'll get some drawing done soon!
I might be sticking to traditional stuff for a while, because my laptop's trackpad has been acting up ever since I cleaned it and the cursor won't stop moving on its own/clicking everywhere. :| It went completely psycho yesterday, I had to reboot it a few times, and it's been more or less okay since then (occasionally it'll jump around for a few seconds but that's all). So using Photoshop is a tad more complicated since it keeps right-clicking and opening windows for nothing. I'm probably gonna have to get it fixed, but everyone's closed for the holidays! :C

So much to do! I seriously forgot what it's like to be able to relax and not feel guilty for not doing anything productive. Lately I've been having a nasty habit of waking up at 4:30 am in a sudden worry that I was late in handing in everything...

Pretty eventful week! The biggest highlight has to be my x-acto knife accident of Thursday...

... which I decided to take 5 minutes and illustrate, because well, it wasn't funny at all at the time but now it's pretty hilarious. Yes, folks, I actually chopped a piece of my finger off. It's healing pretty good so far I think! I didn't go to the hospital or anything (probably should have), but I've been disinfecting and changing the band-aids regularly (obsessively). It's funny because I never once cut myself in first year, but this is my second slice in a month... stress does bad things to you! :C

Again, very few sketches, but! I can probably go to life drawing again tomorrow, for like the first time since college started! yahooo

Something new I tried: offering quick sketch portraits on Facebook to the first few people who liked my status. I made sure to set a limit so I wasn't stuck with a billion people to draw, and by using colored pencils I stopped myself from spending a hundred years on each. These took about 10-15 mins. each, and were great practice! Will re-do again in the future. :)

Some little character sketches..

WINTER BREAK COME TO ME ALREADY siiiigh back to projects

Thursday, November 17, 2011

I actually cannot believe we're already halfway through November! The freakishly warm weather isn't helping, but hey no complaints.

Sooooo still not much from me, I am very blah in the non-college-related art department these days, I've caught my first cold of the season (which is odd because usually I get them in September, without fail), and it's hit me hard! I had a fever for the first time in years, was literally unable to speak for a day, I still sound like a 12-year old boy going through puberty, and I am sooooo run down. Whenever I have free time I just want to spend it sitting around aimlessly and not do anything with my life. Or sleep. ;w; Beautiful, beautiful sleep.

I did push myself to do some (very very) quick sketches. That's pretty much all I have the energy and time to do these days...

blablabla naked people

Max looking at a sword(?), Kyte and Ve'yan being cold because I was cold, two mystery chicks. I don't really know where I'm going with my style anymore, it's like half of me draws realism then the other is like anime? cartoons? ok, but somehow I just don't really care anymore. :|

This is actually a remake of an old sketch I used to really like, from a few years ago. Still experimenting with the colors, but I think I might paint this soon! Also, digital linearting: you are not nearly as terrible as I remembered.

Busy week done, super-busy week ahead. I'm exhausted. )':

Misc. sketches of the week: Kyte being right cool la, random demon (?) girl that came out of nowhere for no apparent reason.

Anatomy sketches of the week. Done from this marvelous website I was linked a while ago. :)

Storyline info dump: here are the three main "cultures" and how their clothing differs.

On the left, Xemetians, of the ancient society of Xemet that doesn't exist anymore, save for its handful of descendants. They wore lively colors and patterns, very light clothing due to living in warmer climates.

In the middle we have Thestrians, immigrants of the country of Thes. Their outfits are made of rich fabrics, often include coats and collars, and also tend to include patterns (though where Xemetians had more colorful and lively designs, Thestrians have patterns that tend to be classy/regal).

And finally on the right are the Verrasians, who conquered from the country of Verrasia. They occupy a bigger portion of the islands the storyline takes place in (haven't really named it yet lololol) than any of the others, so their clothing varies a lot from the different climates. Stuff made from leather, hides or furs are popular, and they use a lot of laces. Their fabric is generally of lesser quality (compared to Thestrians), but that's also because there's a lot more poverty in Verrasian-ruled islands.

YEAH I THINK ABOUT STUFF ALOT. I'd like to post more about this stuff, since I never really have before...

And finished! In a timely manner too, usually detailed paintings take me foreeeeeever... I need to work on my speed and stop obsessing over small details. I totally threw in the background at the absolute last minute, because I always throw in super plain brush stroke-type backgrounds for full-bodies.

So, yes, this is an original character of mine: Isis Kel. C:

(All the awesome artists have fancy signatures with their blog/DA/site etc on their pictures... so I'm hopping on the bandwagon. May or may not elaborate something prettier in vector tomorrow at college.)

I've been thinking on trying to update at least once a week... saturdays sound pretty good!

Mostly original characters heeeere, new and old. Need to draw more dudes. )8 I had major scanner issues today... mr. canon hates me I swearrrr (I installed the software in english this time, not in spanish like it I accidentally did on my PC, so senor canon is now mr. canon)

Life drawing last week was weird, I realized 20 mins before the class began that all my drawing stuff was at college, so I drove like a maniac, sprinted to class to get it, then drove to the art store, only to get there and the model was 45 mins late. This is the only sketch that came out decently pretty much... and that's my tablet wire making a guest appearance in the lower left corner.

Some traditional fanart for practice! Isabela from Dragon Age 2. >:)

Sunday, September 4, 2011

Nothing much this week! I've been pretty lazy in my time off. Finally finished my second Dragon Age 2 playthrough and I now totally want to play the DLC Legacy, but college is so soon, hnnnnnnnnng. D: I'd start a 3rd playthrough, but I finished pretty much all the quests available (other than two of them that were glitched), so there's not much point other than to romance the rest of the characters/try the warrior class.

Random sketches:

So I totally re-watched episodes of Card Captor Sakura in french to relive my childhood this week. It is ridiculously hard to find the episodes, but I found an amazing french site that streamed them all... too bad after ep20 the links are broken. ;_; I might re-read the manga, but it's not quite the same...

Life drawing has been moved to sunday afternoons, which means I may not be able to go to it anymore, I am saaaaaaaaaaad. It's all going to depend on what my schedule is going to be like! I've been trying to do more studies at home instead of always relying on going to the sessions. So have a Rihanna.

Finally, another reason I've been sketching less, is because I've been working on this! Basically what I posted in my last update, but actually painted. I'm unsure about her anatomy though... still a lot of tweaking left to do.

College starts wednesday, heeeeere we go again...  but I'm actually starting to look forward to it now. C:

Sunday, August 28, 2011

I've been a little busy lately, haven't had much time to draw. I'm trying to make the best of my last two weeks of vacation, so I've been going to the beach/doing outdoorsy things whenever I have time off. ... but today is hurricane Irene day! We're not getting it too bad so far, usually by the time hurricanes hit the maritimes they're pretty weakened, but I really hope our power doesn't go out... because that would suck. )8 Though I'm almost grateful for the rainy day, because I finally got the chance to thoroughly clean my room... yeah the place was ridiculously messy.

More linearting/inking practice! I really want to improve on that, so my traditional coloring doesn't look like an 8-year old did it. :'D New character concept, she's some sort of royal advisor type character so far.

Random sketch with weird proportions! I had some kind of alternating design idea going on there. Once again total comfort zone material.

Also a new character, well, she existed before but I brought her back to life (... I do that a lot as you may have noticed). Same role (or almost) but new design, new personality, new background etc.  I think I'm going to paint this very soon... so this is kind of a WIP, basically I just picked her colors.

I have a bunch of painting ideas floating around right now @w@

Finally updating, after a few days of procrastination.  Days in which I finished reading Game of Thrones, started watching the HBO series, started the second book, got some more sunburns, watched old Disney movies, went to some dance workshops that were amazing but now I am in so much pain, and etc. I think my time was well-spent. ;)

Here are the only two sketches that came out decently during this week's life drawing, bleeeeh. But yay for weird angles!

I've been working on my storyline a looooooot, and naming things... Nev's 11 siblings now all each have a name. 8D I... had way too much fun naming them all, seriously.

... and up there is one of her brothers, who is going to have somewhat of an important role. I totally blame is outfit on the fact that I was watching Hunchback of Notre-Dame as I was coming up with his character. C8<

.
First we have an old character of mine brought back to life, all shiny new with a new personality and everything. And then the result of me sketching while watching Game of Thrones, have a half-assed Daenerys. 8D

Some digital stuff~

I started reproducing a picture I took on my 30-hour long busride to Florida last year, but I never really got around to finishing it. ... I think this was in New York city? A part of it, anyway. XD

And a dam, because it came out of my head today. I like painting rocks. Trying out some new brushes/settings!

Did a lot of sketching over the weekend~ And I'm going to hope that my Internet doesn't go out while I am in the process of posting this, we're getting yet another rain-thunder-lightning show this evening.

First, some quick anatomies:

Then, I did the "Annoying poses" meme, which has been in my list of memes to do for a long time now and can be found here. I was too lazy to stick it in the template. :) And also felt like doing it with different OCs, instead of sticking to one. I AM SUCH A REBEL.

"Crawling on the ground searching for something" and "Explaining that something was very large".

"Flexing their muscles", "Yelling to someone far away" (which was supposed to be a bust, but, I felt like a full-body was in order) and "Impatiently waiting on someone".
And finally, "Reaching up high for something" and "Lifting something much too heavy".

Sudden urge to use color pencils.

... And here's Ve'yan again, well, a quick painting of his head anyway. Yes he does have an extraordinarily long nose. P: He's also now officially my only character with bodily markings! Oh how times have changed. But seriously, they're there for a reason and it makes sense, I promise.

My Animaritime commissions are officially now all taken care of-- the Link was claimed, the Zelda was claimed, and all the others were mailed as of today! Yay. :D
